ModerateReadings are based on UK gov Daily Air Quality Index (DAQI) From 1-10 and divided into four bands, low (1) to very high (10)
Public Health England report that poor air quality is the largest environmental risk to public health in the UK.
Poor air quality can worsen health effects in all individuals, particularly in the young and vulnerable. We intend to increase awareness of the sources and impacts of air pollution, to explain what air pollution is, and the actions you can take to improve air quality and public health.
Air pollution comes in many forms. It can refer to: Particulate Matter (tiny particles found in the air), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) or Ozone (O3), all of which are shown to have damaging effects to health and the environment.
There are 3 main conditions associated with air pollution: respiratory conditions (such as asthma), cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and lung cancer.
There are a lot of things that you can do to personally reduce your contributions to air pollution, use the links to find out more about what you can do at home, while travelling and at work.
Opening windows for ventilation and to reduce humidity, as well as using low allergy cleaning products and regularly vacuuming all help to improve your indoor air quality.
Think about walking or cycling more often for short errands. Is it possible to travel by bus for journeys into town, or to travel at quieter times of day so you can avoid idling in traffic?
