Sheffield Clean Air Zone – One year on

The clean air zone hoped to reduce the levels of nitrogen dioxide caused by traffic in Sheffield.

A year on, the Clean Air Zone in Sheffield has shown almost a 65% reduction in the number of polluting vehicles travelling inside of the zone, and an 18% reduction around the boundary. Further reductions will minimise the exposure of the population to pollutants which can cause a range of health implications include lung cancers and strokes. With continued improvements in public transport in and around Sheffield, it is expected that these emissions will continue to decrease.
