Independence in later life and the link to air pollution

Improvements in air quality may help in extending the independence of older people.

A recent article in the Guardian has indicated that lowering the level of air pollution has the potential to increase the possibility of elderly people extending their independence. The research found that in the United States, due to traffic pollution, approximately 730,000 people lose their ability to live independently per year.

Such implications will be experienced due to the relationship between air pollution with respiratory health, cancers and memory problems.
