If found to be engine idling unnecessarily motorists can now be fined in Brighton and Hove. This is hoped to encourage people to turn their engines off when they are not in traffic, thus hoping to improve air quality across the local authority. Doctors are now suggesting further measures should be introduced following high numbers of patients presenting with respiratory issues potentially related to air pollution.
