Can spending time outside on a rainy day be beneficial for your health?

Dr Michael Moseley has outlined how outdoor activities after rainfall has positive impacts on our health.

Speaking on the podcast ‘Just One Thing’ Dr Moseley discussed how rainfall cleanses the air from damaging pollutants so encourages people to go outside shortly after rainfall to breathe in the air. In addition to this, the chemical geosmin is released which causes the typical smell after rain. Studies have shown that this chemical can increase serotonin levels to those who are exposed – a mood boosting chemical.
